This is a chapter from the book "Beautiful feet..." by Sadiri Joy Tira, examines child protection through socio-theological lenses and explores practical ministry applications for local churches. Beginning with a real case of child sexual abuse, author Nativity A. Petallar highlights the urgent need for churches to be equipped to respond to disclosures of abuse. The article analyzes the nature of the child through biological, cultural, and biblical perspectives, establishing that children are created in God's image with inherent dignity and capacity. Drawing on Scripture, particularly Matthew 18:6 and Deuteronomy 6, the author demonstrates that child protection is a biblical mandate rooted in God's care for vulnerable populations. The article introduces Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory as a framework for understanding how various societal systems—including the church—collectively influence child development and protection. With the Philippines identified as a major hub for child trafficking and cybersex exploitation despite being Asia's largest Christian nation, the author argues that churches must move beyond mere policies to create comprehensive protective environments. The article concludes that child protection requires collaborative effort across all levels of society, with the church playing a critical role in both preventing abuse and advocating for children's voices and rights.
