Ruminants are herbivorous mammals, characterized by a pre-gastric organ, the rumen. Microbes within the rumen are responsible for feed breakdown. The rumen microbiome of livestock has been extensively studied but remains understudied in wild ruminants. This collaborative project characterizes the rumen microbiomes of eight native Montana ruminant species.
